As most of our teams are playing all over Sussex today, and can't get to the match at Lyons Farm, Worthing Town FC and Worthing Dynamos FC, paid their respects on Friday evening. The following words are from both myself, as Chairman of Worthing Town and Lee Noakes, Chairman of Worthing Dynamos.
"All competition between our clubs is put to one side for today. This is about the Football Family paying its respects to fellow players, and showing our support for everyone at Worthing United FC at this difficult time.
But it’s also important that we remember all the victims of this tragic event, along with their friends and families. We all use that stretch of road, and every one of us know how easily we could have been there at the same time.
Our hearts go out to all of you. Tragedy is not a strong enough word to describe the events that day and since; and simply offering our sympathy feels nowhere near enough.
But as a community, we pay our respects. As a community, we offer our support. And as a community, we’ll all work together to pull through".
As part of a Halifax Bank initiative that encourages their employees to get involved in the community, our Ladies Captain, Karen Grimes, her partner, two colleagues and three of her teammates, transformed the gardens of a house owned by the Ladies' and Girls' team sponsors Worthing & District Scope.
The Worthing Herald were there to cover the day and a report can be found at:
We would like to congratulate Karen and her working party on an excellent piece of work!
