ACTIVE SUSSEX SPORTS AWARDS 2018

For the second year in a row a Worthing Town FC team has been

nominated as a Finalist at the Active Sussex Sports Awards -

Rix and Kay Solicitors LLP Team of the Year.

After last year's success, the Worthing Town FC Inclusive Team

winning, this year sees our 2017-18 Worthing Town under 10s Yellows

nominated as finalists for the same award.

A hugely successful season for the side saw them triumph in the Arun & Chichester Youth Football League U10 Rother Cup Final in the Autumn. This was followed by winning the U10 Teal League Cup in the Spring. The victories on the pitch were not the only thing to set them aside from other teams as at the end of the season they were also awarded the U10 Sportsmanship Award for the League, finishing top of the table (of 40+ other teams), this being for the second year in a row. An outstanding achievement showing that it's not just about winning and being successful but doing it in the right way.

Manager / Coach Paul Woodley said "To be nominated for this award, as finalists, is a great achievement for the team. As a coach, do I want them to win games? Of course I do because it means a lot to the boys, people look at the score lines but that's not why I am involved. The score line is not my target. I want the boys to enjoy themselves, I want them to develop, as individuals and as a team. We try to have fun, we try to play in the right way, with a smile and whether we win, lose or draw we will come away at the end and hopefully be proud of what we have done. From the very beginning the formation of the team was to enable the players to play football because they enjoyed it, we are an inclusive club. It wasn't about them being the best team and winning, it was about being the best that they could be. They've improved week-by-week, month-by-month. They've learnt, they've developed, they work hard, they're dedicated and they are genuinely a joy to work with. To see them lift trophies for their football successes is really good. To see them rewarded for the way they play, their sportsmanship makes proud and believe that what we are doing is the right thing. This nomination is a very special moment!"

Also nominated for this prestigious award are: Team Santos (Brighton Table Tennis Club) and Brighton Pick & Mix Ladies Masters Basketball Team. The Awards take place at the Grand Hotel in Brighton on Friday 23rd November.

Update: Sadly on the night although the boys had a great time they missed out on winning to the very deserving Team Santos of the Brighton Table Tennis Club. Being part of such an occasion and recognised among other excellent teams is a great achievement in itself and the boys should be very proud.
